About Me.

Hi, I’m Dr. Lee Armstrong, a STEM tutor and cancer research scientist based in the Pharmacy Department at Ulster University, Coleraine.

I hold a PhD, MRes, and BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science, and I’m passionate about helping students understand the “why” behind science — not just memorise facts.

Alongside my research, I work as an E-tutor and university demonstrator, teaching and supporting students across a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Haematology

  • Cellular Pathology

  • Biochemistry

  • Human Physiology & Anatomy

  • Medical Cell Biology

  • Chemistry and Pharmacology

  • Clinical Biochemistry

  • Microbiology

  • Pathophysiology

  • Immunology

  • Clinical & Molecular Genetics

  • Clinical Immunology & Medical Microbiology

With experience teaching at both undergraduate and pre-university levels, I understand how to bridge the gap between school and university science. My tutoring style focuses on clarity, confidence, and curiosity — helping each student reach their full potential in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths.

Whether you’re aiming to boost exam grades, strengthen foundational knowledge, or prepare for university-level study, I tailor every lesson to your individual goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know if tutoring will actually help my child (or me)?
A: Every student is different, which is why I offer a free initial consultation. We’ll discuss learning goals, current challenges, and create a tailored plan to track progress. Most students see improvement within a few sessions once lessons are structured around their needs.

Q: I’m worried tutoring will be too expensive.
A: I understand — tutoring is an investment. But it’s also an investment in your child’s education and confidence. I keep my rates fair and transparent, with no hidden fees, and your first consultation is completely free. The skills and progress students gain often save money long-term by reducing the need for exam resits or extra revision courses.

Q: What subjects and levels do you cover?
A: I specialise in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths across Key Stage 3, GCSE, A-Level, and Undergraduate levels. Each lesson is adapted to suit the student’s pace and learning style.

Q: What if my child doesn’t connect with the tutor?
A: Building confidence and rapport is central to how I teach. If after the free consultation you feel it’s not the right fit, there’s no obligation to continue — no risk, just clarity.

Q: Can lessons be online or in person?
A: Yes, both options are available. Online sessions are flexible, easy to schedule, and just as interactive as in-person lessons thanks to shared resources and digital whiteboards.

Q: How long are the lessons and how often should we book?
A: Most students start with 1-hour weekly sessions, but we can adjust frequency or duration based on goals and exam timelines.

Q: Do you help with exam techniques and confidence?
A: Absolutely. Beyond covering the syllabus, I focus on exam strategies, question analysis, and time management — all essential for achieving top grades and reducing stress.

Q: What’s your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
A: Life happens — I just ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. That way, the slot can be offered to another student.

Q: Do you provide progress updates?
A: Yes. I regularly share feedback and learning summaries, so parents and students can clearly see how confidence and performance are improving.

Q: What makes your tutoring different?
A: I combine academic expertise with a personal approach — not just teaching content, but helping students understand how to learn effectively. Every session builds both knowledge and self-belief.
